“This for them days that you feeling low…”
L.A. artist Akajou recently released his nine track album entitled “Ajakou Is Real”. The album is filled with equal parts reflection, faith, perseverance, and lyricism about coming out of the many storms that life has thrown his way. Produced by Since Noble, the tracks have a laid back melodic appeal that compliments Akajou’s casal rap flow as he takes listeners on a journey about his emotions on his real life experiences such as the passing of his Dad as heard on the track “David”, and the demise of a relationship on the highly soulful “Subconscious” (“My life was damaged, it was mammoth and you filled that space. So fucking dumb and hella numb I had my faith misplaced.”) The track “Role Model” is one of my favorite tracks as it serves as the epitome of everything that Ajakou has done to convey his experiences from pen to paper on “Akajou Is Real” (“I’m stepping up to be the light when the night falls/Be a pillar because I’m in it for the long haul”). You can’t help but to applaud this brother for being the anti “don’t do as I do” as he hold himself to a higher standard for others. If you are in a space where your ups and downs are taking some curve balls, you should definitely add a track or two from this album to your playlist, enjoy the highway and remain steadfast and focused.
“Akajou Is Real” is now available on your favorite streaming platform and you can visit his website to review his discography and available merch. In the meantime, check out his video from a track off of his album entitled “Dead Ends”. Y’all enjoy!
